renting in oceanwalk

I found a great price for a 2 bedroom unit in oceanwalk for July 8-15,2007 from vrbo.com. The man says to give him my name address and telephone he will then give me a confirmation letter from oceanwalk and rental agreement. I need to sign and write him a personal check for the amount. Does this sound right? Thanks

We have rented through vrbo with no problems. Have you talked to the man on the phone? We start with contacting through vrbo then a phone conversation in which many questions are asked by us. We also ask for more pictures ot the unit and when they were taken.

Then the owner sends us the contract and we send a security desposit for damages and if we cancel the deal the deposit is lost if it canceled less than 30 days upon arriival. Our total amount for the rental has not been due until 30 days before we arrive. The owner we have used recently even let us wait until we got there to pay him and met us at the condo, this was not Ocean Walk. We have always paid with a personal check and then received our deposit back within 10 days of leaving.

So to answer does this sound right, only thing I would suggest is not sending in anything unless you have taked to him and make copies of any rental agreement you sign.

I am telling you how it has worked for us, maybe a couple of owners will let you know how they handle their rentals.

I am an owner who advertises on VRBO.

What information would you like to know?

If this person is putting your name on a timeshare reservation, you will get a confirmation letter from Wyndham Resorts stating that he is the owner and you are the guest.

If you are renting a wholly owned condo, he will need to contact owner services to throw your name on a reservation.

Chances are good that he will be sending you the info received from owner services.

I personally fax over an authorization on my guest%26#39;s day of arrival.

Then there is no ';confirmation'; from Wyndham or owner services, but I do throw a formal authorization, which includes my phone number and contact info in case there is a problem at check in.

My biggest fear is that there is a problem at check in -- my guest is made to wait and I am out of cell phone range.

Putting 100% down may be his policy --- you may want to find out about his cancellation policy.

You should phone the Ocean Walk directly and see if the Front Desk will provide you with a comparable rate.

You do not receive any guest services from the on-site employees when renting from VRBO.

You do not receive any guest services from the on-site employees when renting from VRBO.

You will not receive any housekeeping during your stay.

But, staying as the guest of an owner --- you are entitled to all the services that an owner is entitled to and you are also entitled to full use of the facility.

Ocean Walk is a resort that the owner can homestead -- or live at, so you will be renting someone%26#39;s 2nd home -- which is usually maintanined as well or better than the rental condos and you may also be pleasantly suprized to find the condo stocked with those little extras for guests as videos -- games -- etc.

So, yes, if daily or weekly maid service is important to you -- then you may want to check with the front desk.

What this owner is doing is perfectly legitimate. It%26#39;s done all the time through vacation websites like VRBO, Vacationhomes.com, etc. If you%26#39;re not comfortable with the rental, ask him the unit number, then verify through Oceanwalk that he is, indeed, the true owner of the property. You are entitled to any and all amenities there at the complex, except daily housekeeping, but that%26#39;s why you%26#39;re getting a less expensive rate.

As an owner -- I would not give out the room number without a signed contract or payment.

I would prefer that my guests not be bothered by someone who ';Wants a peek for the next trip';--- Yes folks do just ';Drop BY';

Guest%26#39;s Privacy is an issue too....

It would not be a deal breaker for me if I did not get a room number...

Thanks everyone for the responses. After investigating more I found he is a owner through worldmark trendwest. Any experiences with this?
