fort lauderdale grande

My husband and I just returned from our stay at the Grande. I do agree that much of the hotel is, indeed, dated, but I was truly pleased.

We had encountered a horrific experience at Philadelphia International Airport which left us with 1 less day for our long weekend.

Andrew, the hotel manager, was extremely kind when we explained just why we were not able to check-in the evening before. He decided to wave the charges for that night. Contrary to what I%26#39;ve read, someone was always at the desk, at the shuttle post, or at the valet desk.

Please ask for Andrew and you will encounter a pleasant stay!

Please don%26#39;t forget to post the info on the TA Ft Laud Hotel section.

Make sure you post under the correct ';Grand';.

Good to know- I always loved that hotel when it was the Marriott and even organized both major conventions and my own birthday celebration there. it sustained some bad damage in the hurricane and was sold and it just seemed the new owners weren%26#39;t doing a good job of repair and customer service. It%26#39;s in a great location and has a beautiful pool area. If they can get their act together, that will be good news for tourists. I%26#39;d like to be able to recommend it with confidence.

Could you tell us a little more about your room and the dining facilities? They used to have a nice Sunday Brunch and I think a slightly smaller breakfast buffet on weekdays that was good.

The tower is in the midst of being renovated - and a major renovation at that. I was fortunate enough to see one of their ';show rooms'; and it is beautiful! One of the really nice features of the renovation is that they%26#39;re putting class ';railings'; on the balconies so you can sit on the balcony, relax (with a nice glass of wine), and have an unobstructed view!

Also, the food in the dining rooms was very good and nicely presented. Service was also goo...........

Does anyone know when the renovation will be done?....Hubby and I have reservation at the Grand in Late Dec.....Wondering if I should look for another hotel.....Its a special time for us, 35th anniversary and cruise....Don%26#39;t really want to stay where there is alot of renovations are being done....Any advice will be greatly appreciated..

I%26#39;ve heard that they%26#39;re pushing to get it done before Super Bowl (February 4th), but keep in mind that the villas are not connected to the tower so you wouldn%26#39;t be in the same building as the construction.

As with all things, there%26#39;s always the situation of running into a delay of some sort, so if you%26#39;re really concerned, perhaps look into another hotel. The Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Boulevard might be a good option - it%26#39;s Fort Lauderdale%26#39;s oldest hotel but the rooms have been renovated and it%26#39;s a real pretty property. Besides, you can walk out the front door and be among lovely shops and great restaurants...... Of course, there%26#39;s always Marriott Harbor Beach - a 5-star property on the ocean with a wonderful spa and an awesome restaurant. By late December, you might also be able to take advantage of Florida%26#39;s first St. Regis Hotel. Now if you%26#39;re looking for opulence, imagine having your own Butler!! Or, you can see if the new all-suite Hilton on the beach is taking reservations for the dates you need. You can always call the hotel chain%26#39;s 800# for information or check out the Convention %26amp; Visitors Bureau%26#39;s website www.sunny.org for links.

oops - and I forgot to mention that all of the properties are a ';stone%26#39;s throw'; from Port Everglades..........
