Well mostly good news. Other than a Very Low reading at Tarpon Beach, all other on shore locations read Not Present, even up at Redfish Pass and Captiva Pass.
Off shore of Sanibel and Ft Myers Beach there is a Medium reading.
The bad news is the red tide might be heading back south, so I will keep and eye on the results.
If you are traveling to beaches in Sarasota and Charlotte counties, please ask your locak experts and residents about the current conditions. This includes, Siesta Key, Longboat Key, Lido Beach, and Gasprilla Island. The results are spotty, so do check for your location.
Red Tide update 10-06-06
I have been checking in on another board and there were 3 personal reports.
West Gulf has been experiencing fish kills and red drift algae piles on the beach. Some very nasty, smelly days. The water is clearing up but the junk that washes up on the beach is an issue there.
From Captiva, there was a report of %26#39;some dead fish on Captiva and Sanibel beaches%26#39;, but it wasn%26#39;t enough to bother visitors.
Also from Sanibel, a new local reported Sanibel being Sanibel. Which is true. I%26#39;ve been there during red drift algae problems and they do come and go.
All seem to concur the water is improving and there is no sign of any of the symptoms of red tide, like coughing or eye irritation. I may get shot for this, but go to www.bestofsanibelcaptiva.com and check under Beach Tips and Tails and read the first thread.
Red Tide update 10-06-06
I just got back for a long weekend - Thursday to Monday - in Sanibel.
The beach along Middle/West Gulf was fine except for sections with fairly heavy deposits of red algae that drifted on to the beach. I didn%26#39;t experience any offensive odor from it though, which was good.
Thanks Jake!
