Scottish Inn vs HJ

We are visiting for JU parents weekend and also will need to return in May for graduation. Not looking to spend a fortune on accomodations. The best prices we have found seem to be at the Scottish inn (Phillips Hwy) but I find no reviews for it. Also the HJ Salisbury Rd seems to have decent prices and reviews. Any comments from the experts out there.

Scottish Inn vs HJ

Does HJ stand for Howard Johnsons? If so I would beware as most of those are old %26amp; run down. I am not familiar with those in Jacksonville, just the chain in general. Most have gone out of business. You might try Jamison Inns, they are really nice hotels. New chain and price was not too bad. We stayed in one in Savannah. Or Budget hotels usually have good rates if they have one of those. Just check out the area in Jacksonville. Don%26#39;t stay near the bus station. Bad neighborhood.

Scottish Inn vs HJ

The Howard Johnson at 4300 Salisbury Road North used to be an Econo Lodge until the beginning of 2006. The hotel was nicely redone last year and would be a good choice for a decent, affordably priced place to stay. I did find some reviews of the Scottish Inn on Yahoo%26#39;s travel website and 9/12 of the reviews were very negative. Hope this helps.

Hi 12531,

I%26#39;m glad you%26#39;re coming to visit! Welcome to the forum. As a JU grad myself, I think you%26#39;ll enjoy your visit to Jacksonville and to the beautiful JU campus.

That being said, absolutely do not stay at the Scottish Inn. Terrible reputation. I don%26#39;t know much about the HJ, but the Salisbury Road area is nice.

You might want to consider the Hampton Inn and Suites on Prudential Drive. A few zips over two of our bridges will take you to JU in less than 15 minutes, depending on traffic. It%26#39;s a nice place, reasonable rates and in a nice area.

There are some hotels on Arlington Expressway which may be tempting due to their proximity to JU, but don%26#39;t stay in these, either. No good. Unfortunately, there%26#39;s not a hotel really close to the campus, but feel free to post again with more questions, or if you like, you can email me at vickisfloyd@hotmail.com. I%26#39;m about 5 minutes from JU, so I can give you some insight about the area if you need it.

Hope all goes well...congratulations to your Senior!

Hello,

Treat yourselves to a weekend at the beach, what Florida is all about!

Suggest the Sea Horse Oceanfront Inn in Neptune Beach (which is one of Jacksonville beaches). Twenty five minutes from JU. It%26#39;s a two story motel with a pool and poolside bar right on the beach. All rooms have balconies facing the pool and ocean. Rates are a bit over $100/night. (Cheap compared to NY prices!) Good restaurants within a block. Make reservations as early as possible as they go fast. (904) 246-2175, http://www.seahorseoceanfrontinn.com/

J.U. is a great school!

Enjoy your visit,

Spirit
