January in SPB

We can get GREAT flight prices to PIE in Dec and Jan so we are thinking about a first time trip the last weekend in January. Can anyone advise me on whether this is a good time to visit. We are thinking about staying at the Plaza Beach Resort. It looks like a great place for a relaxing trip and appears to get good reviews, any comments on this would be appreciated.

Another couple of questions.... what is the best way to get from the airport to the motel? We thought initially that we would need to rent a car while we were there but we are reconsidering this. Is the trolley just as good if we are planning to stay in the area? Anyway to save $$ is good!

I appreciate any comments/suggestions to help us decide whether to plan this trip. Thanks in advance.

Weather is unpredictable - can be great, can be cold (cold here is in the forties at night). Best way to get out there I have heard is some kind of Super Shuttle for $16. Trolley will probably be fine - it goes all the way up and down the beach and then you can hook up with public transport in downtown to go to all the good places there. Plaza Beach Resort seems to be popular - looks nice but all the independents on that part of the beach are nice (Bel Aire, Miramar, Long Key, etc,)

About half-way down the Weather Underground web site (www.wunderground.com) there%26#39;s a feature called Trip Planner. You can enter a destination and dates to see what the weather has been in the past.

We visited Pass-a-Grille last January and had several chilly days (with a gusty, cold wind blowing from the north) and several days of shirt-sleeve weather. Since we weren%26#39;t expecting sunbathing on the beach weather, we had a good time: sightseeing, shopping, bike-riding, dining out, etc.

Enjoy

Thanks for your replys!

While the weather is always unpredictable, my bet will be on ';downright chilly'; - for us locals anyway. LOL. But nothing that a good sweater can%26#39;t handle.
