Pop Century or a Moderate Resort?

We will be traveling in Feb (2 adults, 7 year old and 5 year old) and plan to stay for 8 nights. The price difference between the value resort and moderate is about $600 over the course of our trip. Is it worth the difference?

We stayed at CBR earlier this year and we liked the extra space in the room but we spent a lot less time in the room than we had planned and we spent very little time in the pool. Almost all our time was spent in the parks. Other than getting ready in the morning and sleeping, we were hardly there and we ended up getting no use out of the fridge. We did find the beds really comfortable - but I believe that with how wiped out we were at the end of the day anything woudl have been comfortable.

I%26#39;m really tempted to book a room a the Moderate French Quarter just because it sounds so nice...but with the potential to save $600 I%26#39;m wondering if it is really worth it...

Any input is very welcome!

Pop Century or a Moderate Resort?

Yes, Pop Century is cheaper and I don%26#39;t believe the pools are heated . Correct me if I%26#39;m wrong. Since you are going in Feb. you may need a heated pool depending on the weather and if you think you will use the pool. The only real drawback to Pop Century I can see is you will probably miss the space. The rooms are really small and not too much storage space. If you are spending most of your time in the parks I would say go for Pop Century and use the pools if weather and time is on your side. Your kids will probably love the atmosphere at Pop Century and the bus service is not too bad from what I%26#39;ve read. Have a great trip.

Pop Century or a Moderate Resort?

In February it may be chilly, so you may not want to spend any time in the pools.

From what you said, it sounds like you don%26#39;t spend a lot of time in the room. Since you get all the perks of being an on property guest at the value resorts, that may be the best choice for you. Spend your savings on food and souvenirs (or another trip to Disney!). I usually stay at a moderate or deluxe, but I also spend a lot of time at the resort (since I live close and have an annual pass, the resorts are a higher priority to me than the parks on some trips). If you haven%26#39;t stayed at a value resort, the room will be smaller than the rooms at CBR (which has the largest rooms of any of the moderates).

My vote is for the Port Orleans and feel it%26#39;s well worth the extra 600.00, the grounds are beautiful, the Sea Sepeant pool on the French Quareter side and Ol%26#39;Man Island the 3 acre water play area with fishin hole and playground at the Riverside are perfect for your 5 and 7 year old!

It is hard for anyone to say whether the $600 is worth it not knowing what $600 really means to you financially. If you really wouldn%26#39;t miss the $600 then, yes POFQ is a great resort that you would enjoy without a doubt. The pools are great and the boat launch to DTD is an added bonus.

If spending the extra $600 would financially strap other aspects of your vacation such as dining choices and extra activities, then I would recommend staying at Pop Century. We have stayed at both PO and Pop and love both. We are like you. We are rarely in our rooms or even at our resort. We are park junkies and spend about 99% of our vacation in them. The pools at Pop are heated as are all pools at Disney. The rooms are smaller, but if you only sleep and shower there then it isn%26#39;t a big deal. The resort is very clean, very cute, and very kid-friendly. The bus service at Pop is actually faster than many of the other resorts including PO because it doesn%26#39;t share buses with any other resort.

I think you (and I know your kids would) be happy at Pop Century and you will have that extra money for other things.

trecord has a good point. If the $600.00 is going to put stress or a damper on your vacation any then I would go with the Pop.

Have been in February to Pop Century, the pool are not heated, I like Pop Century the best.

We stayed at Pop in February and the pool wasn%26#39;t cold. However Orlando always feel warm to us at that time of year due to the weather back in the UK

We all enjoyed being at the Pop and have booked again. If you spend little time, apart from sleeping in the room, then I can%26#39;t see why you would spend the extra money on accomadation.

Whatever you decide I hope you have a great vacation! (gosh even speaking like the Americans now)

With four people in the room, I%26#39;d think the two sinks you%26#39;ll get at Port Orleans alone would be worth the extra money, not to mention all the other things mentioned above. I can%26#39;t tell you how much time we saved with having two sinks over what we%26#39;d spent with only one.

I have never been to Disney except for warm months, but it was my understanding that ALL pools/water parks were heated. We are making our first December trip this year and had planned on swimming at Pop if the weather was even somewhat warm so I just called to see if the pools are heated. I was told that ';yes, all of the pools are kept at a constant temperature all year.'; So maybe either the heating was out when others traveled or maybe some people think that ';heated'; means really warm and it was just not what they expected.

Like you, we are in the parks most of the time. So, we always go with the value resort because $600 is real money to us. I would recommend spending the extra $10 per night (or whatever it is) to get a preferred building.
