Thankyou so much to the local experts for your update on the redtide problem. After much consideration we have decided that we will go ahead and visit next week with our 3 children. Coming from Scotland where a major outbreak of foot %26amp; mouth disease almost devastated the tourism industry some years ago, I reckon you folk need the support. There seems to be loads to do other than beach, any tips on canoeing?/Biking (my youngest son is determined to master the art of bikeriding during the stay) we are looking forward to visiting restaurants, any particularly that we shouldnt miss? We will also relax and swim in the pool.
I have narrowed down the accommodation to 2 places, both get good reviews, The Island Inn and the Best Western. B/W seems to be on the bike path, what about the Island Inn? Which is closer to restaurants and shops and is it possible to walk?
Any further tips most welcome. Well we look forward to next week, if you locals hear the soft lilt of Scottish accents, please say hello, we would love a chat.
Regards

I think I%26#39;d take the Island Inn as it is more %26#39;beachy%26#39;, if you can make sense of that. LOL But I%26#39;m a dedicated house renter myslef. It is also on the bike path. Most places are on or near. Nothing wrong with Sunset Beach, but I think Island Inn has more charm. Just MHO as a property visitor rather than a stayer.
As for restaurants - Island Cow, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Gasprilla Grill, and Amy%26#39;s Over Easy Cafe and Sanibel Cafe for breakfast, GrandmaDot%26#39;s at the Sanibel Marina for some simple grilled fish [skip the crab balls], Schnapper%26#39;s Hot Dogs, Johnny%26#39;s or Island Pizza - and they both have other Italian stuff, and on Captiva, Mucky Duck for sunset and dinner, and for lunch the Bubble Room, a really unique place with endlessly interesting decore good appetisers and great desserts [take some bak and kkep in you fridge for later consumption] but so-so entrees.

Thanks Tourmaline, I booked The Island Inn yesterday, spoke to them by phone, great service, I%26#39;m sure we have made the right decision. Will try the local restaurants, there are plenty of good reccomm. to choose from. We leave for Orlando Friday and do a few days of crazy stuff before we hit the peace and charm of Sanibel.
Regards
