My boyfriend and are scheduled to visit Fort Lauderdale next April along with Orlando. I have to confess reading the reviews of some of the hotels here that Ft Lauderdale doesn鈥檛 sound all that enticing. There maybe beaches and resorts but I picture uneducated staff working at them. Even the chains like Sheraton and Marriot have a lot of one star ratings which strikes me as odd. Anybody want to convince me that FT.Lauderdale is worth a visit? I may be painting things with a broad stroke but there isn鈥檛 that much to be crazy about.
What's hot about it?
I guess it depends what you are looking for.
Fort Lauderdale is on its way to becoming a world class city with numerous shops, waterfront restraunts that you access on miles of canals by way of a taxi that rides on the water, gorgeous beaches, art galleries, museums, parks, culture, and thriving downtown entertainment distric. You of course have the beautiful atlantic with swimming, boating, jet skiing, parasailing, kiteboarding, or just relaxing on the beach. Then hop a ride on the water taxi to las olas boulevard where you can stroll in a europen style atmosphere with outdoor dining, high end shopping and entertainment. Then walk along the new river on riverwalk and gawk at the mega yachts passing by or a sailboat out for an evening cruise. If outlet stores are more your style you can head west to Sawgrass mills mall, one of the largest in the U.S. and while you are out west explore the evergladeds via airboat and see wildlife you might never imagine being close to (yes including gators!)
And Orlando has...disney :)

From reading your post , I would say Ft. Lauderdale is not the right place for someone of your thinking. You would be much happier in South Beach Miami- where those you picture themselves as jet setters tend to congregate. I can%26#39;t imagine you on an Everglades airboat!. If you have already reserved your plane flight, you can easily rent a car at FLL and drive tto the ';hot'; hotels and clubs of South Beach..
And, just for the record, the hospitality workers of Ft. Lauderdale are certainly not any more or less educated than similar workers in any other locale.
No one can convince you that anywhere is worth a visit you have to do your own research and then make your own descision.. Personally I would never base my choice of destination on the educational qualifications of the hotel staff although I%26#39;m sure those employed in Fort Lauderdale have the necessary ability to fulfil their occupations. Everyone we met in Fort Lauderdale was polite friendly and helpful - non appeared uneducation however I did not ask to see their certificates. If you are planning to visit South Beach, Miami you may find that a knowledge of Spanish helpful when dealing with hotel staff.
I think you should stay in Canada, perhaps go to Niagara falls. You may have to page down past the one star hotels until you get to the two star%26#39;s.
I would have someone check your grammar skills prior to posting a comment regarding the lack of education of some people.
Quite frankly, as long as someone provides good, friendly service, it does not matter whether they are a college graduate or a high school drop out.
Good luck with your search. But, I have the feeling that you won%26#39;t be happy anywhere.
Quite frankly, I was quite insulted by the ';uneducated staff'; comment until I stopped to realize that the person making the comment is just uneducated about Fort Lauderdale.
Indeed, my first reaction was to tell you that you aren%26#39;t welcome here, but then, that%26#39;s not the type of community we are............and we%26#39;ll be happy to take your money!
And where did you see a Marriott with one star? Certainly not the Marriott Harbor Beach or the Marriott Hollywood Beach or the Marriott North............ you must have us confused with - Niagara Falls Canada?
can 10,000,000 people be wrong? that%26#39;s how many people came to Fort Lauderdale last year :)
