Where else to travel in Florida?

Will be spending 5-6 days in the Disney area with our kids. We then want to ';relax'; somewhere else in Florida..any suggestions??

We will have another 5-6 days.

Where else to travel in Florida?

I like the Gulf Coast...Clearwater Beach and Treasure Island are good family choices.

Other people often recommend Siesta Key, although I haven%26#39;t had a chance to try it yet.

Our family really enjoyed our trip to St. Augustine too.

Since you are from Canada, I really think that it is important that you take a fan boat ride. Due to limited exposure to such things, you may not have been able to identify that aching need in your soul but, believe me, it is there and no amount of maple syrup and Smarties will be able to fill it. It%26#39;s best if you can find a fan boat owned by a guy named ';Skeeter'; or ';Gooner';...and you%26#39;ve hit solid gold if he is lacking a few fingers due to an incident with some buddies, a gator, and some beer. Those are good times.

Where else to travel in Florida?

You didn%26#39;t indicate WHEN you%26#39;d be traveling. It does matter and much of FL from around Orlando north is pretty chilly much of the winter.

The Gulf coast starting about Sarasota on south to Marco Island is a good choice, and it%26#39;s rather quiet there. Sarasota is a nice city with some interesting sights, and is not a real city like Tampa/St Pete.

The FL Keys are a great choice for weather, but not so good for beaches. Key Wesy has very little in the way of any beaches and that%26#39;s true all down the Keys, but the overseas highway is one of the most beautiful dives you%26#39;ll ever take. It%26#39;s a long one too.

For pure relaxing, it depends on whether you want a luxe resort, nice condo n the beach or maybe off beach, but on a barrier island with a laid back style, I%26#39;d say that%26#39;s Gulf coast. It does lack hot nightlife. This whole are is kid friendly. Check out, Longboat Key, Anna Maria, Sarasota, Sanibel, Captiva, Ft Myers Beach [and for a great buy, look at a one week house rental in Cape Coral with a private heated pool - about 30 minutes from Sanibel and it%26#39;s great shelling beaches], Bonita Beach, Naples and Marco Island.

That should get you started! Have fun and visit the various forums. Folks on them are friendly and helpful.

Nightlife - SoBe or many other spots on the Atlantic coast. Fishing, and just kicking back and Key West style, try the Keys. Other than Key West they aren%26#39;t party towns.

I also would recommend Sanibel and Fort Myers. Excellent areas to relax and take it easy.

I would say St Pete Beach would be a good place to relax but still have enough for the kids to do and is only a short distance from Treasure Island and Busch Gardens.

Also Naples is beautiful with lovely beach - dont know if the zoo is still open in Naples - we were the a few years ago and there was talk of it being closed down. In Naples we staying at the Holiday Inn which had a nice safe pool area and the staff were great.

What about Daytona - sure you could relax on the beach but once off the beach its quite a busy place.
