st petersburg airport

can anyone tell me the easiest way to get from the St Petersburg airport to Tampa. I am thinking of booking a flight for my son on an airline which flies from this airport. he is a student at the University of Tampa. We are used to using TPA but this flight is cheaper. Thanks!

Depending on where to in Tampa, either the Courtney Campbell causeway or the Howard Frankland bridge. Both are well signposted. Both are subject to heavy traffic in rush hour, but there is no direct alternative, as a quick look at a map of the area will show.

Chuts is right, only two bridges (well, there%26#39;s the Gandy, but that%26#39;s out of the way a bit) to get you back into Tampa. St Pete airport is closer to I-275, which is the Howard Franklin Bridge. You%26#39;ll essentially get to the traffic light when you leave the airport, turn left, and head north on I-275 over the bridge and into Tampa. You%26#39;re really not adding much time/miles onto the trip compared to flying into TIA.

Rush hour is a nightmare and can take an hour to cross that bridge, especially on a Friday afternoon/night. Not to discourage the trip, but just be prepared for the stop-and-go traffic. But that%26#39;s all dependent on what time the flight lands, ie, with mid-day traffic you can usually cross the bridge in about 15 minutes (or less, for those who treat it like the German Autobahn!!).

Taxi would cost approx $35.00, Bay Area Shuttle or Super Shuttle is $23.00 per person.

A little clarification on the rush hour thing. The traffic is bad going from Tampa to St. Pete in the afternoon and the other way around in the morning.

If you%26#39;re going in the opposite direction you should be okay, unless there%26#39;s an accident.

That formula used to hold true a few years ago, but as of late, it can be just as horrific to travel from St Pete to Tampa via the Frankenstein in the afternoons. Especially on a Friday, and beginning around 3pm. They even have signs (or at least they used to last year) telling motorists of the traffic delays heading north bound into Tampa and the approx wait to get over there. But I%26#39;ve found by 6pm most of it has cleared and traffic is flowing rather smoothly (barring the ever present accident, of course)
