staying near the airport, what's in that area

Hi

We are staying at the Hampton Inn by the Jacksonville airport in December before cruising. We will be there by about 7 pm. and are wondeirng what we can do in that area. The hotel provides a free shuttle so we do not have to taxi. Does anyone know if there is a liquor store or mall in that vicinity and is it safe for four women to walk around there.

The airport area, unfortunately, is rather far from Metro Jacksonville (20 minutes from the downtown area). The airport area is safe, although it isn%26#39;t a pedestrian friendly area. There is a liquor store at the 747 Lounge, but it isn%26#39;t at all nice and is somewhat of a shady place...but if you%26#39;re in need, it%26#39;s the only one if you don%26#39;t have a car. For shopping, there is the newly built River City Marketplace...it isn%26#39;t a ';mall'; but there are a few options and a movie theatre.

Other places to have a drink in the area...Longhorn, Ruby Tuesday, and Millhouse. To my knowledge Holiday Inn, and the Clarion Hotel are the only two hotels with a lounge in that area.

If you can somehow find a way to get downtown, there are some great places at the Jacksonville Landing I would recommend. Twisted Martini and Deep Blue are great places for a few drinks. If you%26#39;re in to the younger crowd, Paris Hilton owns a nightclub there called ';Club Paris'; which would assure a fun time!

Great shopping can be found at St. Johns Town Center in south Jacksonville. Sephora, bebe, Buckle, Anthropology, Lucky, Express and others can all be found there...and dining options include Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Changs and various others.

The Jacksonville Landing is an area on the bank of the river that meanders through the middle of town. There are great views of the river and the opposite bank and the bridges. There are some restaurants there, and on weekend nights there%26#39;s generally a band otuside in the central area. You could have a festive evening there. Hanging out around the airport area would be pretty unexciting.
