We LOVE FMB and can%26#39;t wait to go back. Our first trip was March 2005 and we%26#39;re returningn again March 2007. We realize this is the busiest time of year but weren%26#39;t prepared for the traffic. We rent a lovely home just 2 miles south of the bridge and we spend the majority of our time on the island. However, we do like to go into FM a couple of times to attend MN Twins games. Any advise on the traffic .... how early would we need to leave to avoid the crouds and how late for returning?
We do rent bikes and love seeing the island that way. Any chance there%26#39;s a safe place to park the car OFF the island, over night, and then ride bikes there?
traffic tips
Hi Terri,
We spent many years vacationing on FMB and found it much easier going out the south end via Bonita Springs. It is a bit further but the traffic is much less. Not sure where the Twins stadium but this might be faster for you.
It was the traffic that drove us out of FMB- we stay about an hour north of FMB now and absolutely love the quiet, relaxed, uncrowded beaches.
Good Luck
traffic tips
happinessa, where do you stay? We did not experienc crowds in FMB because we visited in the off season. We are planning on returning next summer to FMB, but I am also investigating other locations. We are looking forward to a nice family beach vacation. I loved the beaches at FMB, particularly Lover%26#39;s Key State Park.
We stay near Port Charlotte in Rotonda West. There are many very nice luxury homes available for rent in this area with private heated pools.. It is about 15 minutes from Boca Grande beaches ( absolutely beautiful and unspoilt) It is also close to golf with 4 courses within the boundaries of Rotonda West.
We too, love Lovers Key and enjoyed FMB- for us it just became a traffic nightmare and too much noise. We love the peace and quiet and beautiful surroundings of our newly discovered piece of paradise.
Some websites that offer info about the area- pureflorida.com, ourrotondavilla.com ( check out the 7 day itinerary for day trips)and Gasparilla Island State Park.
Baseball Fans- Rotonda West is just under an hour from Ft.Myers and Sarasota -
