My wife, 6 yr old daughter and I are heading south in the next month or two and would like some advice on where to stay and if there%26#39;s a place we can find discount tickets for each of the theme parks. We are looking at whether it would be better to stay at the Disney in a package deal(cost, convenience, etc) or rent a vacation home nearby and what websites would help us in comparing prices, etc.

Why don%26#39;t you repost this same quesstion on teh Orlando Forum- people rarely rspond to questions posted on the Florida Forum , as it is too general. There are many Disney ';experts on the Orlando Forum as well as other Brits full of good advice there.
I must say that I am a bit surprised that you%26#39;re just starting your planning now- and hoping that ';month or two '; doesn%26#39;t end up being over Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays , when you may find many places already are filled.

The resorts located on Disney property are very expensive. I suggest you find something close to Disney, but off-property.
There are a great number of hotels located in the towns of Kissimmee and Lake Buena Vista. These two towns are closest to Disney, and are just to the south of Orlando. Disney is about 20 miles south of Orlando.
