Excuse my ignorance, but what is there to do or visit in Port Charlotte. We are going there for a week after spending 10 days at Kissimmee. There will be 4 adults and 3 children under 6 yrs.
Thanks
Port Charlotte
Probably only the beach in nearby Venice. Everything else you can get in Kissimmee. Or a little further north is Siesta Key beach - best beach in Florida. Sarasota has the Ringling museum. Lido Key has beaches and St. Armands Circle (boutique type shops etc). Longboat key is worth a drive by.
South in Ft. Myers there is the Edison museum.
Depends on your taste, but Pt. Charlotte is a good jumping off point to places north and south. Sanibel island - the kids would love looking for shells on the beach. There%26#39;s a $6 toll to go to the island.
Google those places for more info. When are you visiting? It%26#39;s hotterNhell right now.
Port Charlotte
Take a look at Myakka River State Park- its about 30 min. from Port Charlotte. It has alot of neat stuff that adults and young children will enjoy.
If you are staying in a vacation home most in this area have private pools which after a week in Kissimmee the kids will probably enjoy the chance to play in the pool.
We like the beaches on Boca Grande which is about 30-40 minutes from Port Charlotte.
What month are you to be in Port Charlotte?
Hope this post is not too late to help:
Babcock Wilderness Adventures- showcases natural local flora and fauna- www.babcockwilderness.com
Fishermen%26#39;s Village waterfront mall/marina/resort - great place to shop, in a unique setting - www.fishville.com
Fish Cove Minature Golf - 36 holes overlooking Charlotte Harbor, perhaps the best setting for mini golf in all Florida- 4949 Tamiami Trail - 941-627-5393
Boca Grande - great drive over a causeway, beaches, restaurants, more - www.bocagrandechamber.com

And for the adults, who want a pint from home, try the Celtic Ray pub: www.celticray.com
Far be it from me to contradict a Florida resident, but to imply that you need to go to Venice and Sarasota for beaches is simply wrong. Port Charlotte does in fact have a beach of its own - nothing special it has to be said, and hardly a tourist attraction. But Englewood has a decent beach and is only about 12 miles away.
I would agree with visits to Myakka River state park, Boca Grande and Sanibel/Captiva. The ';Ding'; Darling nature drive is not to be missed.
Nearby Punta Gorda has Fisherman%26#39;s Village and boat trips to the outlying islands. Cayo Costa can only br reached by boat and has good shelling as there are so few visitors, and you may well see dolphins on the boat trip.
As the area is less frequented by tourists, you%26#39;ll find plenty of good eating places frequented by the locals, giving you a dining experience that Kissimmee cannot match.
Thanks for that, we are going to be at Kissimmee from 23rd December until the 2nd Jan, (believe thats bad timing, but never mind!) and then to Port Charlotte until 9th Jan.
Thanks for that, some good ideas :-)
