Top Marks for Robin Hood Airport Doncaster

Just back from Florida Mon 05;35 I am not going to give you a report of the 14 day Florida bit as that was pretty normal.

Although I could write a book on the bad driving skills displayed on the roads .

We only avoided a collision in St Pete%26#39;s because I was operating my safety theory at a traffic light . That is that when you are the first one up to a red light , either let someone else in another lane cross the intersection first , or count to 5 before setting off.

On this occasion I was in the left hand lane. The pick up in the middle set off as soon as the green light showed. He had gone almost across the intersection when a woman driving with one hand run the red light and turning left came behind the pick up and hit the central reservation missing me by only a few inches . And I had not moved at this point in time. Lots of other cars were honking at her to draw her attention as she was happily gabbing on the phone. I was sat there wondering how to get out of her way. Had I have set off as soon as the lights had changed she would have hit us.

The very large number of people driving and using the phone frightens me. We saw them texting. dialling. talking and even reading a news paper while driving on I 4 on the way to Tampa. They can only be described as “ Dangerous %26amp; Crazy”

Now back to my subject. We flew to Florida on the 24th Sept from our newly opened local airport at Finningley, Which is called Robin Hood., Doncaster , Sheffield Airport. And flew with Thomson’s. The airport building is new and compact and was very efficient. It was checking in 4 flight simultaneously and very busy , which made our line a bit slow as the 767 aircraft take a lot of passengers.

We were all ready to go 5 mins before departure time but they had loaded a quantity of whiskey and US customs held up the paperwork for 50 mins. which made us late. But we arrived only 15 mins late at the other end

There is good passenger drop off areas and lots of short and long stay car park areas. No Idea what they charge for car park as my son was dropping us of. Lots of nice shops food and refreshment bars and a nice atmosphere. The return to Doncaster at 05;35 was just as efficient and one hour 5 mins after landing claiming our luggage , customs etc I was tucked up in my own bed. Only living 7 miles from the airport.

Could not fault it, I will use it again if possible , it made a whole lot of difference on the outbound and homeward journey. Not to have hours travel before and after a long flight. And its relatively easy to get to. When they build a direct Motorway connection to the M18 it will be even better

Thompson’s next year are to give all the economy passengers more room on their aircraft the BA pleasantly do. Globe span are starting a service to Toronto from Doncaster next year , and considering Florida destinations. All we need is for First Choice to also come and use the airport . Then we will have an almost perfect combination

Im replying to this post while driving!

Poacher was driving a Mack truck at the time so I think she did a great job to miss you.

Doncaster is on the map then - as recommended by P.

Very interesting but await the full report.

Vegas If id%26#39; have been driving a Mack Truck I would have moved off as soon as the green light showed so she could have hit it and wakened her up to the dangerous practice of being on the phone while driving . These people who put others lives at risk should be banned from driving, crush their cars and just leave them with the just their cell phone

I think the States got into cell phones about two years after we had our big push on mobiles. They have certainly caught up in their usage- just about everywhere - like us. They do not seem to be aware of the dangers of using them while driving. In the Summer it seemed like everybody seemed to be on the phone at the lights.

Perhaps it is because I have always seen the mobile as an electronic leash that allows people to know what I am doing and where - that I just don%26#39;t like it. It is dangerous while driving and they have brought in a law against phoning or texting in cars in the UK -but it is rarely enforced. It has however made people review their behaviour and I think there is less in car phoning in the UK now.

I just wish the USA would take this danger seriously

I
