Walie Talkies at DisneyWorld

would it be Ok to use walkie talkies at disney world? what range would they have and would we get a good reception in such an environment? Hope someone has tried these and may be able to help us.

Walie Talkies at DisneyWorld

We tried it, and it was hit and miss. Ours were the older 2 mile range, so you could only use them within a park, and if you were inside, and the other person was outside, we had a lot of trouble. If you were both outdoors at Epcot, no problems. They have newer ones now that have a 10 mile range, and maybe they are powerful enough to overcome the indoor/outdoor issue. But our family has all gone to cell phones now, so we use those instead.

Thanks , would the problem be too many people trying to use the same frequencies or just not powerful enough?

Allegedly the US walkie talkies work on the same frequency as UK police communication equipment. Therefore Vegas could buy one ready for when he returns to the UK so that he can listen out for the UK police chasing him up on his lack of tipping back in the US!

But seriously this is a good question as the price of a non US visitor using a cell phone is ridiculously high and if the walkie talkies work then it%26#39;s very useful.

Agree that they are hit %26amp; miss

We tried using them with our 2 girls but found we were picking up bits of others%26#39; conversations.

Interesting though!

Bought ours from Walmart. Good range, no interference from others if you pick the right chanel. Normally and odd numbered one in the teens, say 15 or 17. Everyone seems to go for the lower chanel numbers, must be something about human behaviour there somewhere.

We wouldn%26#39;t be without them now. They%26#39;re great for the supermarket, the malls or just shopping round town. They%26#39;ve also been to Alton Towers, Chessington and Thorpe Park and even on a recent sponsored walk.

We tried it but it was pretty useless, too many people were using the same frequency, we only had 8 channels on ours, and most people were using the same 8 channels, we gave up in the end.

I guess if you get ones with lots more channels it might work.

The problem we have found is that which ever channel you pick someone else will also be on it . but this is abit hit and miss depending where you are.

I dont belive they are tuned to to Ploice channel in Britian as we have used 2 different sets and never picked up any police messages on them . They do tend to work quite will but you just have to put up with other people a bit sometimes

As an aside, it is now impossible to %26#39;tune in%26#39; to police chanels in the UK either deliberately or by mistake. The system the police currently use was phased in, force by force, to an encrypted system that uses different technology to the normal %26#39;radio%26#39; type systems.

Hey mates you%26#39;re on vacation remember!! Is all this really necessary??
