Hi,
Has anyone been to DC with a child this age? She won%26#39;t be able to do the dolphin swim because she%26#39;s too young, so only one of us will be able to, and I won%26#39;t do the snorkelling bit (it%26#39;s a claustrophobia thing!) So my question is will there be enough there for her to do with one of us while the other is off doing their thang?
Any comments greatly appreciated.
Discovery Cove with a 5yr OldHi peachyprice, cant answer the question about 5 year old. but you will be fine doing the snorkelling, it took me a while to get used to it, but got there in the end, and loved it. hope this helps.
Discovery Cove with a 5yr OldYes peachyprice you and your 5 year old will still enjoy yourselves as there is a swimming lagoon and a shallow area where your little one will enjoy the small sting rays swimming around her. There%26#39;s also a bird sanctuary to stroll through. You can also enjoy watching your husband with the dolphin as there are seats right in front of the dolphin area.
Thank you both for your replies.
Healin, she loves birds so she%26#39;ll definitel enjoy that.
Polly I%26#39;ve tried snorkelling quite a few times, but I just can%26#39;t get it, I panic because I can%26#39;t get the breathing right and get a mask full of water, I feel such a wuss!
Alos does anyone know if they provide floatie jackets for little ones?
Hi peachyprice,
I can relate to you and the whole snorkeling thing! Don%26#39;t worry Discovery Cove is a beautiful park and is fun for everyone. Yes they do have life jackets for everyone including the little ones, also wet suits to keep you warm! You%26#39;ll have a great time.
Is it worth going if you don%26#39;t like getting wet but the rest of the family do? Would I be better off chilling at the hotel and letting them off?
i would say ';yes';...
It麓s better to chill at the hotel because it is not very cheap to be there!!
And all the things (exept the bird aviary) is water things...
All inclusive drinks and food but this is not worse to pay over 170 bucks i guess!
hi peachchyprice,
i went last june to dc i have a four year old girl who could not swim with the dolphin but my son and wife did the swim . My little girl could not understand the age limit, she just seen her big brother with the dolphin so i asked if she could have a photo with dolphin (hutch) they said to wait till everybody had gone and she had longer than my son in the end her face was a picture . if you dont think you can grasp the snorkelling thing i would not go myself, yes there is the lagoon and birds but just seens too much money to walk round and not enjoy the pools .
Thanks for the info about your daughter, sounds like she had a great timw.
But I don%26#39;t have to snorkel to swim in the pools do I? I thought I%26#39;d just be able to swim around, I have no problem being in the water, I just can%26#39;t do the mask thing %26amp; snorkel thing.
No...you don%26#39;t have to use a mask and snorkel. Those are primarily for viewing the fish, rays, (etc.) in the two pools that hold them (and those pools are quite ';chilly';.) The rays are visible in the ray pool even without using a mask and snorkel. You can just stand there and they will swim all around you.
The main lagoon does not have water critters nor does the lazy river, thus the temperatures in those two places are much more pleasant. No need for mask and snorkel because there is actually not much to see underwater in those areas. However, it is fun to just float down the river and look at the lovely tropical surroundings.
