Coral Gables

I%26#39;m going to Florida in a couple of weeks to attend a wedding over a weekend. The wedding party, myself included are staying at a place called Coral Gables....I have a couple of days free before and after the wedding and wondered what there was to do in the vicinity. I dont want to get involved with museums or art galleries, unless its contemporary instalation type art. I was thinking of taking a day trip to somewhere... or maybee a morning or afternoon shopping. Also any good informal places to eat?I sound ignorant I know but I%26#39;ve never heard of the area and dont even know if its by a beach!!

Coral Gables

Coral Gables is a ';suburb'; of Miami and a fabulous place, million places to eat/drink and be merry, and a pretty fashionable part of town, recommend you repost that question to the Miami forum, which has great local experts that can help you....have fun!...:)

Coral Gables

I don%26#39;t know how dedicated a shoper you are, but the largest outlet mall in the US is about an hour or less north of you- Sawgrass Mills Mall just west of Ft. Lauderdale.Take I-95 north to I-595 West( just north of Fort Lauderdale Airport) then exit 595 at Flamingo Rd . going North and you will end up right there. There are a few hundred outlet shops including upscale like Coach and Barney%26#39;s and lots of good eating places ( Cheesecake Factory - yum!) We have many British tourists who happily spend the day to load up on jeans, purses etc.

So you sound like a native, you%26#39;ll want to say that you are going to ';the Gables';. It%26#39;s not by the beach but the beach isn%26#39;t far way. Assuming you are staying near downtown Coral Gables, the cab fare is about $20. There is a new shopping area called Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables. It has a Neiman Marcus and lots of little boutiques (or, in some cases, clothes museums because the prices are too precious for me to do more than look!) It%26#39;s a very pretty place to spend a morning or afternoon. There is a lunch place in Nordstroms department store that is very good and informal. Whatever you get, try the french fries. They are served with an olive dip that is out of this world.

Coral Gables has a main street called ';Miracle Mile.'; It has a lot of bridal related shops but also little places to poke around it. One block north of ';the Mile'; is a great book store called Books %26amp; Books. They have a little restaurant/bar/coffee area. If the weather is nice, they have an outside bar. There are several outdoor eateries on the Mile. We like Tarpon Bend for great fish in a casual atmosphere. If you want to rent a car for a day (Enterpise has several offices in town and will pick you up), you could go to Miami Beach, the Everglades or Key Biscayne (also a beach).
