Black Flys on the Beach

I was at the beach last weekend and there were black flys on the beach that would not leave us alone. Along with being a nuisance they also bite. I am going back down Thursday and was wondering if anyone knew whether they were still down there or if they knew when they might leave. Is this normal this time of year?

Thanks!

Don%26#39;t know about the flys...but the monarch butterflies are passing through. They are a beautiful site.

We had flies like those in Sept 1999 in the Blue Mountain Beach area as well. Looked like normal flies but were biting. Haven%26#39;t been in the Panhandle since, so I don%26#39;t know more about them. But they were very annoying and - together with the red tide at that time - a reason to leave earlier than we had planned.

Hi! We just got back and yes, there were biting black flies! A guy was telling us that it was because the wind was coming from the north. When the wind is coming from the south, off the water, the flies have to fight the wind to get to the beach and aren%26#39;t such a nuisance. The flies weren%26#39;t as bad Thursday as they had been. The water was beautiful! Have fun!
