I am staying at the Hilton Sea Worl Intl Center 2/23-2/27/07. Rental car rates seem Outrageous to me and we are debating weather or not we should even bother renting one at all. Does anyone know if there is anything you can walk to from the hotel?
Anything within walking distance at Hilton Sea World Intl?Besides SeaWorld and Discovery Cove, not much. Fortunately, the weather shouldn%26#39;t be oppresively hot, though I hope it is on the cooler side. But it would be close to (if not more than) a mile walk to a strip mall at Westwood (Westwood runs right next to the resort) and International Drive. There is a Steak n Ale and Bennigans right by the strip mall, and Flippers Pizza is a very good pizza place, though I%26#39;ve never been to that particular location. Over a mile away (I%26#39;m guessing 1 1/2 miles but I%26#39;m not sure), east on Central FL Pkwy (the road between the Hilton and SeaWorld), there is a Publix grocery store and a few fast food restaurants. There%26#39;s also a strip mall on International Drive just to the south of Central Florida Pkwy; but not right by the resort.
The I-Ride trolley does pick up by SeaWorld, and can take you up and down International Drive, which is a busy touristy area to the north of the HGVC (I%26#39;m not sure if there%26#39;s a pick up at HGVC Sea World, but there may be; I know there%26#39;s one by Marriott Cypress Harbor just down the street on Westwood); google I-Ride Trolley and they have a website. The cost is pretty low; much cheaper than using a cab. If you go south on the I-Ride trolley, there%26#39;s a very popular outlet mall called Premium Outlets, along with a nicer Publix grocery store close by. Also, they have a dropoff which is within walking distance of Universal Studios. It would probably take a good while to get there, though, with all of the stops.
Also, the #50 Lynx Bus leaves from SeaWorld and goes to the Ticket and Transportation Center at Disney, from which you can go to all the Disney parks. Lynx is Orlando public transportation.
So, while HGVC is definitely not right in the middle of the action, its definitely not impossible to go without a car to the Hilton SeaWorld, if you%26#39;re willing to use the I-Ride Trolley and Lynx buses. Check with the resort about what kind of theme park shuttles they run as well. Be aware, though, that walking distances will depend on where you are in the Hilton resort, as it is a good sized resort.
Anything within walking distance at Hilton Sea World Intl?Of course, unless the Hilton SeaWorld has an airport shuttle, you would have to arrange your own transportation from the airport (I assume you%26#39;re flying into Orlando International Airport--MCO, not Orlando-Sanford Airport; if you%26#39;re flying into the latter, its a good 30 or more miles to the resort, but MCO is a bit closer) and back. You can try this site to get a ballpark idea of the cost:
www.mearstransportation.com
Of course there are plenty of previous topics on the issue of getting from (MCO) to various resort areas, particularly International Drive.
We%26#39;re staying at the same place at the same time as you - but we are renting a car. It seems like it%26#39;s a secluded, gated resort and not really easy to get anyplace on foot. But I believe the hotel is a stop on the I-drive trolley (not just at Sea World, but right at the hotel) so you should be able to get to restaurants, etc. that way. Do they have shuttles to the parks?
Have you tried all the promo codes for rental cars? They bring it down some, but the prices are unusually high that week because it is President%26#39;s week.
